There is a world of opportunity to restore degrade forest landscapes around the globe. According to a study commissioned by IUCN (see Atlas of Forest and Landscape Restoration Opportunities, 2009, revised 2010), there are approximately two billion hectares of degraded and deforested landscapes in mostly human-dominated mosaic landscapes. Landscape degradation directly affects 1.5 billion people, many of whom live in extreme poverty.
